Air Canada just released its Best New Restaurants in Canada for 2024, giving you a reason to fly across the country to try out one of these delicious dining spots. Over 30 restaurants were reviewed this year by a single anonymous reviewer who assessed not only the food but also the overall culinary experience. The highly anticipated list is Canada’s longest-running ranking. 

At Air Canada, we are thrilled to share the very best of our country with the world and for more than two decades, this program has shone a spotlight on Canada’s vibrant, world-class culinary scene,” said Andy Shibata, Vice President, Brand at Air Canada in a press release.

 “Food is an enriching part of travel experiences and through this program which supports new businesses, we hope to inspire travellers with even more compelling reasons to explore our country,” Andy added. What are Air Canada’s Top 10 Best New Restaurants 2024 in Canada?

Here are Air Canada’s top 10 best new restaurants in Canada: 

  1. Sabayon —  Montreal, QC 
  2. Mhel — Toronto, ON 
  3. Maison de Soma — Mont Tremblant, QC 
  4. Takja BBQ House — Toronto, ON 
  5. Café Malabar — Victoria, BC 
  6. Parapluie — Montreal, QC 
  7. Bar Prima — Toronto, ON 
  8. Fat Rabbit — St. Catharines, ON 
  9. Gary’s — Vancouver, BC 
  10. Crumb Queen/Andy’s Lunch — Winnipeg, MB 

How many Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants are in Toronto?

Three Toronto restaurants made the list this year. In second place is Mhel, a Toronto Japanese-Korean restaurant. While Takja BBQ House, a Korean BBQ spot and Italian restaurant Bar Prima also made the list in fourth and seventh place, respectively.

Did any restaurants win special awards this year?

Aside from the Top 10 Best Restaurants list, there were special awards awarded to restaurants in a variety of categories. Sabayon was awarded Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants’ Dish of the Year: grilled oyster mushrooms capped with a caramelized Arlette and a cloud of sabayon sauce. 

Other awards and restaurants included: 

  • Mhel — Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants’ Dessert of the Year (for Purin, a sweet and simple Japanese rendition of creme caramel) 
  • Maison de Soma — Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants’ Cocktail of the Year (for their Somananas Sour) 
  • Takja BBQ House — Air Canada Best New Restaurants’ Sides of the Year (for their shareable banchan small plates, including kimchi two ways and mustard greens)
  • Bar Prima — Air Canada Best New Restaurants’ Design of the Year
  • Fat Rabbit — Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants’ Concept of the Year

    How are Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants picked?

    This year’s restaurants were selected by award-winning cookbook author, culinary journalist and judge Tara O’Brady. Tara’s expertise — which spans over 30 restaurants in 16 cities all over the country — helped her fly across Canada to search, try the restaurants and unveil the list. This year marks the 23rd year of the popular Canadian airline compiling a list. As an anonymous reviewer, she assessed all aspects of a dining experience at restaurants and dining spots opened in Canada between late spring of 2023 and May 31, 2024.
