And now, more than ever, it’s time to support our local brands and show them just how much we love and rely on them.

In case you missed it, the political climate between the US and Canada has caused many locals nationwide to “buy Canadian.” This is due to the potential US tariffs that could be imposed on Canadian goods and vice versa. In other words, buying US-imported products could cost you more money.

Don’t fret! We’re here to help you identify Canadian products and introduce you to some of our favourite Canadian food brands, which you can find at your local grocery stores.

What labels should you look for at grocery stores?

This might look different between provinces, but some labels to look out for include but are not limited to the following:

  • Product of Canada: This means that nearly all the ingredients, processing, and labour are Canadian.
  • Made in Canada: The last substantial transformation of the product took place in Canada and it might include imported ingredients.
  • Aliments Du Quebec: This label is Quebec-specific, where at least 85% of the product originates from Quebec.
  • Aliments préparés au Québec: Another Quebec-specific label and typically refers to processed and packaged goods in Quebec.
  • What are other ways to add Canadian items to your cart?

Other than keeping an eye out for labels, it’s also helpful to look at the company’s website. This typically helps with spotting the ones that are either locally owned or produced in Canada.

When in doubt, check where the product is processed. That’s what’s most important because that’s where the jobs are.

Also, there are online resources online that can help you spot Canadian brands, like Made in CA.
