
A childhood favourite Sloppy Joe, but with an unexpected flavour twist: gochujang! This Korean red chili paste is made with fermented soybeans, and it gives the tomato-based sauce a hint of sweetness, saltiness and spiciness. It’s an elevated spin on a quick and easy dinner, making it the perfect weeknight meal.

In a large skillet over medium heat add the oil and ground beef. Season generously with salt and pepper. Continue cooking until the beef is browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic, onion and bell pepper. Cook until the vegetables begin to soften, about 5 minutes.

Add the brown sugar, gochujang, ketchup, Worcestershire, soy sauce, sesame oil and crushed tomatoes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Bring sauce to a gentle simmer and reduce to low heat. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens slightly, about 5 to 8 minutes.
When ready to serve add a scoop of filling to each burger bun and garnish with scallions.
