We’re bringing you the flavours of Greek summer with these quick and easy smash gyro tacos. Gyros are the most popular Greek street food and if you’ve tried one, you know exactly why. The fragrant meat (either pork, chicken, beef, or lamb) is slow cooked on a vertical rotisserie before being sliced and served in a warmed pita with tzatziki, tomatoes, onions and a few fries for good measure. Gyros are perfect for any time of day but are incredibly delicious in the early hours of the morning after you’ve been dancing all night!
Assuming you don’t have a vertical rotisserie in your backyard, these smash gyro tacos will give you the same craveable flavours at home in under 30 minutes. Plus, we’re using corn tortillas, so they’re gluten-free as opposed to their pita bread counterpart.
This smash gyro taco recipe calls for ground beef, but you can swap it for lamb, pork, chicken or a blend of whatever ground meat your heart desires!

Optional: Remove ground meat from fridge one hour before cooking to allow to come to room temperature. This will help the meat stick to the tortillas.

In a large bowl, mix together the meat and the spices. Set aside for 10 minutes.
In the meantime, finely chop your dill, dice your tomatoes and thinly slice your red onion.
Optional: Salt your tomatoes for extra flavour!
Take a generous spoonful of the meat mixture and spread it evenly across one side of the tortilla.

Using a non-stick pan that’s been sprayed with avocado oil, place the taco meat side down and allow to cook through for 5 minutes on medium heat.
Flip taco over once for an additional minute before removing from the pan.

While the tacos are cooking, cook off enough fries to have 2 to 3 for each.
Garnish the smash gyro tacos with tzatziki, tomato, red onion and dill serve immediately.
Enjoy!
